Quail is still the ultimate measure of wealth in the Red Hills. A typical year consists of 75 hunts on Longpine’s 15 courses. Many of the quail hunting traditions as we know them today were developed here. At Longpine, the average bird count since 1998 has been as high as 6.7 coveys per hour. It is recalled by many that during the last time Longpine hosted the Georgia Florida Field Trial (2007) a spectacular 100+ wild coveys were seen. The kennel of 35 pointers and setters has been selectively bred using the plantation’s most proven dogs over the last thirty years. Numerous field trial trophies and ribbons adorn the 20-stall horse stables.
